This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. It comes at a time of great turmoil for the world. Amidst the global health crisis, and the immense blow that it has dealt to the world economy, the inequalities and inequities in society has been brought further to light. 75 years ago, through the charter of the United Nations, “we the peoples” reaffirmed faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small. Today, more than ever, we need to rededicate ourselves to this aspiration, and work together to uplift all members of our human family, to create a better future for all, and to ensure that no one is left behind.

This event is jointly organized by the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN) , the Republic of Costa Rica and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The virtual discussion will address racial discrimination and violence against women and girls. Among the participants are H.E. Epsy Campbell-Barr, First Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica; Dr. Natalia Kanem, USG and Executive Director of the UNFPA; the Honorable Constance Newman, Chair of the Board of the ARDN and former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs of USA; the Honorable Diane Abbott, British Member of Parliament; and Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, President and Chair of the Board of National Council of Negro Women.
